Draft for the current GameTun testing build · Updated 24 October 2026
This is a transparent description of the current test candidate, not a completed store privacy declaration. The developer’s legal identity, public privacy contact, server-log retention and final shipping SDK audit must be confirmed before this policy is published as final.
What GameTun does
GameTun is a local-first mobile application for nearby multiplayer games and chat. Bluetooth is the primary connection. One participant’s phone hosts the room. Optional Wi-Fi mode uses a separately operated compatible server. No GameTun account is required in the current build.
Information used in a room
The app processes your chosen display name, room membership, temporary session identifiers, chat messages, game actions and game state. A room’s host processes the state needed to run the game, including private hands and roles. Other participants receive the public room state and their own private game view. Participants can see your display name and messages sent to the room.
Where information goes
In Bluetooth mode, room information is exchanged with nearby participants through the host phone. In optional Wi-Fi mode, the configured server processes room information and sends participant-specific views. The operator of an independently hosted server may have access to information processed there. Connect only to a server and people you trust.
Storage and retention
Room sessions and messages are held in memory by the host or configured server. They do not survive a host/server restart in the current implementation. Leaving a room does not immediately erase messages already shared with others. A recipient can copy, photograph or otherwise retain anything they receive. Your language preference and editable player name are saved locally on your device. Clearing the name field clears the remembered name; uninstalling the app removes its local preferences. The app web preview uses browser local storage for the name, removable by clearing site data. This does not save room sessions or chat history.
Device permissions
Bluetooth and Nearby Devices permissions support discovering, hosting and joining nearby rooms. On older Android versions, Bluetooth discovery also requires Location permission and location services. iPhone local-network permission supports optional Wi-Fi connections. You can revoke permissions in device settings; the related features will stop working.
Security limitations
The current test build does not implement verified encrypted pairing or application-level encrypted room snapshots and session tokens. Room codes are not a security guarantee. Do not use testing rooms for confidential or sensitive information. Keep the app in the foreground; the Bluetooth host’s departure ends the room.
This website
The website saves your selected language in browser local storage under gametun-web-language. This preference is not sent to a GameTun server by the page. You can remove it by clearing this website’s browser data. Language switching still works if local storage is blocked.
This marketing page contains no gameplay, account form, advertising tracker or analytics script. Its stylesheet requests fonts from Google Fonts, which involves a request from your browser to that provider; your browser may disclose IP address and request metadata. The website server may also record access logs. The owner must confirm access-log purposes and retention before final publication.
Third-party software
The mobile app includes React Native, Expo and other dependencies. A final audit of the exact production build’s network, storage and SDK behaviour is still pending. This policy must be updated to match that audit; no blanket “no data collected” claim is made.
Your choices
Use a nickname, avoid sensitive chat content, leave rooms you do not trust, revoke device permissions or uninstall the app. You can ask other participants or the server operator about copies they retain. There are no GameTun accounts to delete in this testing build.
Contact and policy changes
Privacy contact: pending owner confirmation. A working public contact and the responsible developer’s identity must be added before release. Changes to data handling will be reflected in an updated version of this policy.
